MWC, Smart City Expo, Automobile Barcelona and the Cardiology Congress are among the many events to be held
Technology innovation, new industry and health in 2017
2017 is set to be a year of major international events for Fira de Barcelona, particularly in the areas of technology innovation, new industry and health. The Montjuïc and Gran Via venues will host over 60 trade fairs and congresses, plus a further 50 corporate events.
A huge number of trade shows are on the agenda for 2017, including the mobile communications industry’s leading event, Mobile World Congress, the Smart City Expo World Congress summit conference, Barcelona Building Construmat and Automobile Barcelona, which will focus more on mobile connectivity this year.
Seven innovation, technology and new industry events coinciding at the Gran Via exhibition centre are of particular interest: the IoT Solutions World Congress; In(3D)dustry; Expoquimia, Equiplast and Eurosurfas, which will be held at the same time as the World Chemical Engineering Congress; and the first World Chemical Summit, a global debate forum on the chemical sector.
Fira will welcome some major health and technology conferences in 2017, bringing together more than 100,000 professionals. These will include the European Society of Cardiology Congress (the world’s leading event in this field, to be held here for the fifth time after the last congress in 2014) and those run by United European Gastroenterology, the European Burns Association and the Society for Magnetic Resonance.
It will also be host to a new exhibition, Healthio, which will spotlight new technology applications in the medical field and feature the experience of MIHealth. Technology companies such as SAP, WM Ware and Atlassian will also hold their own events.
Also on the 2017 agenda are the benchmark exhibitions for various sectors such as the Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, Piscina & Wellness Barcelona, IBTM World, Graphispag, Motoh!, B-Travel, the Comic and Manga Fairs and the Sónar Festival, among many others.
As regards international business, Smart City Expo will be co-organised in Buenos Aires, Casablanca and the Mexican city of Puebla this year, as will the Qatar Car Show, and shows connected with the graphics industry and packaging, renewable energies and security will also be launched in Cuba together with the Hostelcuba catering exhibition, while consultancy services will be offered in Morocco and Ethiopia, among other projects.
